donations and grant money in the future to help finance the Farmland Preservation Program.
“We’re probably going to have to beat the bushes to get the first couple of applications,” McCarthy said. “Then we might get some word of mouth going.”
The Farmland Preservation Program applications are available in the County Administrator’s office and are due by Dec. 30, 2004.
“We have to show that the program is working before that will happen,” McCarthy said. “You have to have a couple of victories before you say you’re ready to play the game.”
McCarthy said the farm program lets people keep and use their land. “But it could mean they or their heirs would have limitations on it,” he said.
“Our land has got value because of scenery,” McCarthy said. “What we have for sale is landscape, basically.”
