Jim Rankin — who would be entering the U.S. Army himself soon and heading to Korea, remembers his father going to Washington. D C., to receive his award. It was a proud day for his family.
Clay Rankin died in 1967, and was buried in the cemetery of the Midland Church of the Brethren.
Clay’s medals are now in Jim’s possession, along with two Bronze Stars and other medals that he earned himself fighting in Korea.
A real reminder
Recently, Jim Rankin found a unique piece of family — and county — history rolled up in an old storage box that once belonged to his parents.
