1 want to thank Merril Strange for the great contribution she is making toward the Viewtown community. During the year, on several occasions, she has single-handedly cleaned up the litter and debris along the side of Route 729 and Forest Grove Road. During her last collection, I noticed that she had collected 11 bags of trash from the intersection of Routes 729 and 618 to Battle Mountain Road. This is a distance of just. over one mile!
My husband Danny informs me that while a lot of trash is still thrown along the side of the road, the trash situation is far better than it was in the 1950’s. He said that during those years there was no land fill or county refuse center. People occasionally would pick out a spot on the side of the road that had a steep bank to deposit trash. It seems that during those years, many people had no problem with just throwing trash out the window
