cement and updated the interior. “Sometimes we even put the customers to work,” joked Paul Baldwin.
Today the store has become a landmark and a place Paul said regulars still visit steadfastly. The Baldwin’s said about 90 percent of their customers are local and tourists comprise the other ten. “We have people that really cater to this particular store,” said Paul. One of the aspects of the store that attracts regulars is the deli meats and cold sandwiches available every day. “We have a regular lunch crowd,” said Cookie with a happy smile.
The Quicke Mart
It is hard to believe it has already been ten years since the Baldwin’s opened their second store, The Quicke ?dart in Sperryville.
“The local people really sparked the idea to build the second store,” said Baldwin. The couple hesitated for years on building the second store on property they owned on Route 211. Baldwin recounted how parents in the community suggested he have a store open later in the evening for parents and their children to buy gas and other items they couldn’t get after Baldwin’s Grocery closed at 6 p.m.
