This time the weather cooperated and the postponed Annual Bland Memorial Music Concert came off as planned on Sunday. Sponsored by the Lions Club, the cool yet sunny afternoon brought out music appreciators.
Thirteen students representing Rappahannock County High and Elementary Schools and Wakefield Country Day School performed vocal and instrumental selections to the delight of the audience of family, friends and Lions Club members.
Nicole Espinola, daughter of Lorraine Duisit, was awarded First Place in the High School Instrumental category for her piano rendition of “Danzas Argentinas 111”. Julia Hutfils, an exchange student attending Rappahannock County High School and residing with Diane Belford, received First Place ranking in the High School Vocal category for her performance of “Ich gehor our mir”. Each of these students were the high point recipient in their respective category and will move on to the Lions Club Regional Bland Contest that takes place in March. Runners-up in High School Instrumental were Evan Espinola, son of Lorraine Duisit, playing his alto saxophone; and, Laura Wheatley, daughter of Barbara Wheatley, alto voice in High School Vocal.
