The community would like to welcome James and Jenny Stone and sons, Daniel and Christian, to their new home, Stonehaven in Washington. When Jenny saw Stonehaven in January she knew they had found their dream home. Its unique architecture, character, and warm charm immediately bewitched them and they signed the lease that same day. Two weeks later they began their big move and from the first days they were overwhelmed with cheerful, “Welcome to the neighborhood!” greetings at every turn and on every comer. Neighbors came right into the yard while they were moving furniture to shake their hands and introduce themselves. One of those, Ms. Alice King across the street, brought brownies for their sons which only lasted about 30 minutes. The Stones are quick to admit that rather than feeling like newcomers, they feel as if they have come home after a long absence. After the recent snow, the Stones took their boys around town to scout out a good sledding spot. They felt they'd stumbled into a Norman Rockwell painting complete with beautiful old buildings, the sound of church bells ringing put over the crisp clean snow, topped off with snowballs flung over their heads by their energized boys. Reverend Hobson came out of the church door in his vestments and sneakers to welcome them and ended up throwing a snowball himself and offering a good sledding spot right behind the sheriff’s office. After a good two hours of brisk sledding they dragged their tired selves back to a warm kitchen and hot chocolate. For the Stones it was one of the best days they’ve had as a family in years. Jenny’s husband James has been a part of the Rappahannock community much longer being a native of Southern Virginia. His very first job was at the Country Cafo as a dishwasher at 16! He even encouraged his oldest son to apply there as well. Their boys, Daniel, 14, and Christian, 13, are settling in nicely and Jenny eagerly awaits spring so she can start her new herb gardens. She is an avid gardener and is certified in horticulture and herbalism so her fingers are itching to dig in the soil. The Stones are eager to meet new neighbors so stop by and say hello. Jenny just might have a cup of coffee or tea waiting for you at the kitchen table. Congratulations Five wrestlers have qualified to head on to the regional tournament this coming Saturday after placing in their weight classes at the Bull run District Tbumament over the weekend. Congratulations and best wishes are extended to Alex Sharp, Dos Allen, Jeremy Diley, Tyler Armor and Isaac Ramey from Rappahannock County High School who will be traveling to Strasburg High School on February 25. C is for cookie Cadette Girl Scout Troop 2329 will be having a “Girl Scout Cookie Booth Sale” this coming Saturday, February 25, at the 211 Quickie Mart from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. While you are filling up your gas tank, stop by the Cadette Girl Scout booth to buy some cookies. Relay for Life meeting A reminder for the second meeting of the Rappahannock County Chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Team Captains will be held on Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m. at the Washington Baptist Church. For those that are thinking about participating as a Team Captain in the Relay, you are invited to attend. The overall plans and preparations for the upcoming Relay will be discussed at this meeting. Team packages and information to help your team get started will be available. The last meeting will be on April 20. New teams are welcome until the day of the Relay. But team registration is critical if you want your team’s name on the T-shirt. Please call Bette Mahoney at 675-3446 for further information.
