Among his classic songs, instantly and universally recognizable, is a gem about the trials and tribulations of students of any era. Any ‘kid’ of the past 50 years knows the song. How profoundly sad it is that white folks would have missed the performance at ‘the Inn’. We know we would have wanted to hear it. In its own simple way, it is an enduring and humorous reminder of how much we all; white, black, green, red, or what-have-you, are just alike in the things that really matter, maybe even in the love-hate relationship we all have had with education, well beyond any political or social considerations.
