A petition circulating this week among property owners in the Town of Washington already has 44 signatures requesting the Town Council apply for grants to help offset the costs of hooking up to the new sewer system.
The petition, which requests that the town council apply for more grant money, states ‘that individuals and businesses should not be required to pay the $7,500” hook up fee and associated costs for decommissioning existing septic systems.
The 44 signatures on the petition represent 38 properties in the town.
As of Wednesday, there were a few owners yet to sign, but who had indicated they would including Patrick O’Connell, chef and proprietor of the Inn at Little Washington.
In an email to the Rappahannock News, O’Connell said he would sign the petition.
