Rev. John Edward Jenkins, 93, of Washington, VA passed away on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Winchester Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Bobby Jenkins and Rev. Phillip Bailey. Burial will follow in Washington Masonic Cemetery. Rev. Jenkins was bom May 22, 1915 in Sperryville, VA son of Henry P. and Laura H. Dodson Jenkins. He was a long time pastor serving several churches in Rappahannock County and was a lifelong member of Flint Hill Pentecostal Church. He was the husband of the late Barbara Jane Jenkins. Surviving are one son Edward Clayton “Pete” Jenkins and his wife Sandra of Flint Hill; two sisters Ella Burke of Catlett and Anna Welch of Spotsylvania; two daughter-in-laws Kay Jenkins of Berryville and Laura Jenkins of Culpeper; one son-in-law Robert Whorton of Castleton; former daughter-inlaw Margaret Jenkins of Flint Hill; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughters Polly Edna Woodward and Jessie Virginia Whorton; two sons John Henry Jenkins and Charles William Jenkins; two brothers Jacob Jenkins and Ashby Jenkins; two sisters Mammie Rutherford and Lucy Jenkins; two grandsons Johnny Ray Jenkins and Darrell Jenkins; and one great-great-granddaughter Alyssa Evans. Pallbearers will be great-grandsons Wesley Corbin, Allen Corbin, Jeffrey Compton, Brian Compton, Tommy Settle, Jonathan Miller, and Jeremy Miller. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.
