Rappahannock Democrats don’t have any plans. Chairman Ray Boc looked into getting a bus to take the group into D.C. but at the time he looked, in December, he said bus companies were asking between $5,000 and $10,000 to charter a bus. •
However, in a call to a local charter company in Winchester - Schrock Tburs & Charter - the tour coordinator said they were charging a mere $45 per seat. They Jiave one bus filled, but plan to add another. Some of their buses were also chartered by the District of Columbia as transfer buses from parking areas such as RFK Or, buses to bus people who took buses.
The Inn at Little Washington sent a special invitation out to members on their mailing list offering two nights (arriving Jan. 19 or 20) for the price of one for those wishing to get out of town for the Inauguration. Rachel Hayden, spokesperson for the Inn, said they had a great response and that several rooms already have been booked.
For their guests during the Inauguration, the Inn will have a 62” TV showing the Inauguration in their new ballroom and will be serving light refreshments.
That seems to be the preference for many, as staying warm and comfortable in one’s own home, with maybe a little champagne, seems to trump the crowds and weather of attending in person.
Many may not be doing anything at all as county government and schools in Rappahannock will be open and don’t have any plans to watch or celebrate the Inauguration.
“The county will be open,” said county administrator John McCarthy, and unless the state of Virginia declares a holiday, they don’t have any plans for Inauguration.
So too with Rappahannock County Public Schools. However, school superintendent Dr. Bob Chappell said, “We are encouraging teachers to use the live cable feeds of the Inauguration as teachable moments.”’
