Riding the wave of popular ‘reality” programming that's stormed the nation over the last five years, Rappahannock County's animal shelter is in line for a real-life $1 million makeover.
The found funds would help the no-kill facility, said board chair Sally Cunningham. The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League that operates the shelter relies on community support and charitable contributions, two things harshly curtailed as the nation's economy slumps into a deep recession.
The makeover, sponsored by the pet networking Web site Zootoo.com, couldn’t have come at a better time: the county's only dog-rescue facility has expanded since it was conceived in 1988, and an expensive renovation is already underway at tin shelter Outdated, insufficient lighting is being upgraded, an isolation unit being built to code and indoor-outdoor runs expanded so that stray dogs can have a better quality of life as they stay at the nokill operation awaiting adoption.
Though the million-dollar windfall would certainly be appreciated, RAWL is already well on the way to fully funding the partiallycompleted project.
