Luke, said she had “talked to people who were not comfortable speaking about this in public” but were willing to make their views known by signing the petition.
Mayor Eugene Leggett said he was aware of the circulating petition and “it sounds like what we’ve talked about, what we are doing.” The mayor also said he didn’t see “anything problematic” with the petition.
Luke remarked in a conversation with the Rappahannock News that there was nothing confrontational in the petition and that it was not intended to be so. Luke and others were to have presented the petition to the Town Council at last night’s meeting which took place after the newspaper’s deadline.
Some who supported the petition did so, but with the caveat that this not be anything to delay a project they see as much needed. They also felt that any delays would likely increase
