“After 30 years of observing the town government in action, I have learned to have great faith in the ‘collective wisdom’ of the community,” he said.
The biggest concern of the petitioners, citing “difficult economic conditions,” is the ability to pay for some property owners, and that the fees as proposed in the draft sewer ordinance will present a “hardship” to some town residents.
“We hope the council will understand that there are a lot of people of very modest means in the town,” said town resident and property owner Diane Bruce, one of the sponsors of the petition.
“There are more than 20 properties owned by retired people and these folks tend not to show up” at council meetings continued Bruce.
