Gaynell Putnam “Piggie” Russell
September 6, 1927 - January 11, 2009
Gaynell Putnam “Piggie" Russell, 81, of Flint Hill died Sunday, January 11, 2009, at Loving Arms Care Facility in Front Royal. She was bom September 6, 1927, to John William and Claudia Kines Putnam. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Frances Bendix.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Emory C. Russell and one son, Emory C. “Terry" Russell, Jr. of Arlington, uncleGlen Kines of Hume, VA.
Mrs. Russell was educated in Rappahannock County and graduated from Washington High School in 1945. She began her career in banking in 1945 at the Flint Hill National Bank. She continued her career at the Citizens National Bank of Front Royal which later merged with the Fanners and Merchants Bank of Winchester. She retired from F & M in 1989.
Mrs. Russell was a member of the Flint Hill Baptist Church. She was also a founding member of the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and served as its first president.
Piggie was an avid bndge player and golfer and was a past member of the Fauquier Spring Ladies Golf Team. She enjoyed playing basketball in high school and later with the Warrenton Ladies Team.
The family received friends on Tuesday, January 13th at Moser Funeral Home, Inc. in Warrenton, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 14th at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Flint Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, # 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
