first quarter of 2009 is to open a UVAMC MultiSpecialty Clinic on campus.
“This is a win-win situation,” said Harrington who said that in addition to a nationwide shortage of nurses, there is a shortage of physicians, as well.
“It’s challenging to recruit and attract physicians to predominantly rural areas like ours,” noted Harrington who heralds the addition of education facilities.
“We’d like to grow our own,” Harrington said.
The partnership undoubtedly will enhance the economic situation in the Culpeper area with an anticipated gain of 100 new jobs over the three-year period, as well as development of an employee pool.
“The residents of the greater Culpeper area will soon experience the benefits of this partnership as plans to expand the Culpeper Regional Hospital emergency room and inpatient capacity move forward, and we begin the integration of clinical services which will allow more patients to receive treatment closer to their homes,” reiterated Howell.
The bottom line for Culpeper Regional Hospital is that this partnership will give it enhanced access to technology, expertise and capital while enabling it to remain a not-for-profit, independent community hospital with local direction of day-today operations.
“Ultimately, this access will benefit our patients,” said Harrington. “All of this is in line with our vision — for Culpeper Regional Hospital to become the finest patientcentered community hospital in the United States.”
