The cost of septic field failures “far outweighs the cost of the sewer system" said Steve Ray, who owns property on Mt. Salem Avenue in town.

Asked what he thought of the petition, council member John Sullivan said he welcomed it. He said he intended to be much more involved in finding additional funding and that the council is already “focused on other ways to get additional money to help pay” for the project.

“This is fine, I’m happy to support it,” he said speaking of the petition.

Sullivan said that town administrative assistant Laura Dodd already has “spent quite a bit of time” trying to find alternative sources.

Meanwhile, the town is holding meetings today', in the Town Hall with the two contractors building the wastewater project. The meetings are open to the public. \
