In its first year there, the event drew about 4,000 people, but attendance slipped a bit to 3,000 or less last year due to rainy weather. For many years the celebration and fireworks display had been held in the town of Washington.

Event co-chair Richie Burke predicts a crow’d of 4,500 to 5,000 this year, partly because the holiday falls on a Saturday rather than a weekday. He and co-chair Gary Settle and their committee have been planning the event for months with an aim to make the celebration “bigger and better" than ever.
