During the Bush administration, Witold played a role in the negotiations, which led to the lifting of “sanctions" against Poland, and he was decorated with the Gold order of Merit of Poland. Witold Kuncewicz was a talented author of brilliant but not completed reminiscences, which he began to write towards the end of his life, but unfortunately he hadn’t been given the chance to continue.
Long-time friend Joan Hopewell remembers that Kuncewicz was a fixture on Virginia's racing and hunting circuits. "(Kuncewicz's) life in Virginia was very concerned with the local hunts that he supported and took a very prominent part in the point-to-pomt and steeplechase races, training his own mare In The Know, giving him much pleasure as she was trained on his farm with the aid of Jo Pat Murphy, who has helped him for many years. His wife Dorothy was always very enthusiastic (and) loved to foxhunt.
"He imported some horses from (his native) Poland that he hunted,” Hopewell said. "He always enjoyed helping the young steeplechase riders, having the well known Major Michael Antonawicz give steeplechase clinics on his farm. He had a full life. He was fun to be around as he always had a new scheme up his sleeve." A memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 13, 2009 on the Old Kennels Farm, Flint Hill, Virginia.
