The proprietors took out a dropped ceiling to reveal a high, tongue-and-groove ceiling. The outdoor patio is being landscaped and set up for outdoor dining, and Peter MacMurray said he has plans for future use of the nearly three acres the store sits on.
He sees horseshoe tournaments and maybe a local farmer’s market. The hitching post — which can hold up to four horses — will remain.
Together, the MacMurrays and Word have had fun creating a line of “signature” sandwiches and dishes to reflect the flavor and tastes of the northern Fauquier community.
“It’s a work in progress,” Word said. “My plan is to include as many local products as possible,” right down to the homemade bread he’ll use for every sandwich.
Plans caill for both on- and off-premise liquor licenses, which will allow for local wine tastings and wine pairings.
The store also features soft-serve ice cream — something especially popular with the many cyclists who stop in on weekend rides — and another MacMurray signature offering — “Mondays are Sundaes.”
