The grape grower from “Little” Washington just couldn’t convince herself to stay out of the race. On Monday, Meredith Gorfein announced she would challenge incumbent Del. Jay Katzen for the 31st District House of Delegates seat which he has held for six years. “I decided I had to do this. Call it a calling,” said Gorfein, who, along with her husband, owns Rush River Vineyard in Rappahannock County.
National Relocation and Real Estate Magazine has, for the eleventh year in a row, surveyed and ranked the 300 largest residential firms in North America. The rankings are based upon the number of closed transactions and on the volume of closed sales. Real Estate III was one of the 300 firms recognized for their 1998 results. Scott Updike, a junior at Virginia Tech, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue his studies in animal and poultry sciences. The son of Randall and Toni Updike of Washington, he has been named a recipient of the $500 A.L. “Ike” Eller Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to students based on scholarship, leadership, and need and commitment to agriculture.
