“I saw UVA having more opportunities for real life situations than Richmond, which is smaller and more like a bubble,” Massie added.
Carter is one of just 56 students to gain a spot in Virginia’s nursing school. Although her program of studies is specialized, she hopes that she will see Tupper, Massie or Hathaway in one or two classes over four years.
None of the four plan to room together, because they want the chance to meet new people.
To close out their high school career, Carter designed a special, 194-picture slide show that featured everyone in their AP English class. She included photographs of all four students, some from their elementary school years until now.
The 14-minute presentation left many of her classmates and their teacher, Melissa Delcour, laughing — and in tears.
Carter is glad that, while one story ends, another will begin.
“It’s nice to know that we’ll have people going with us when we go to college,” she said. “You meet new people, but you still have your old friends.”
