Council meetings move to second Monday of the month

Chef Patrick O’Connell, whose Inn at Little Washington has long made him the one citizen of the Tbwn of Washington perhaps best-known around the world, was appointed last Wednesday to the Town Council.
O’Connell wag ~ nominated by Mayor Eugene Leggett to fill the seat vacated by Jeff Benson who cited work and scheduling conflicts in the letter' of resignation he submitted to the council last month. Benson’s term - expires next July. ,,
O’Connell’s former Inn partner Reinhardt Lynch had served for 18 years on the council when he resigned in February 2007. Lynch was vice mayor for the last five years of his service. His interest in the Inn at Little Washington was bought out by O’Connell after a protracted dispute.
In nominating O’Connell, Leggett noted that O’Connell “has been in the town for 33 years," nodding in O’Connell’s direction.
“Hardly seems possible," O’Connell said, seated in the public gallery.
