Theater joined the holiJL day festivities in Little Washington last weekend REVIEW with its 2009 .. presentation of the beloved Shepherds’ Play at the theater on Gay Street.
Visually, the play was an exquisite departure from this venue’s necessarily minimalist approach to a performance. Given that they rely almost entirely on the work of volunteers for nearly every facet of a production, all who gave their time and effort for this play sets new standards in creativity.
The audience would immediately notice the striking scenery rendered with great skill and imagination by local artists Kevin Adams and Linda Heimstra. They would also witness the characters brought to life in beautiful and authentically recreated Medieval costumes, handcrafted by Marcia Kirkpatrick and Debbie Brow-n. All was harmoniously drawn together and illuminated by music director Evelyn Oyster and lighting expert Carl Aplin.
The play began as the cast’s most junior and senior members took the stage. Young J Switzer bore the mystical "Star Scissors" as Norm Getsinger delivered the opening monologue. From that moment on theatrical magic filled the air like confetti as stagecraft, song and dance thrilled and enthralled the audience.
Actors Mike Mahoney, Patty Hardee, Andy Platt and Zoe Pettier clicked as the shepherds, entertaining all with their good- natured sibling rivalry. Mary and Joseph, played by Erin
