The opposition to the Higher rate was opposed by Capt. Co6k, * who renewed his resolution of Monday, April 3, to cut 5 cents from the levy, reduce relief funds, $1,000, and cut $2,000 from the general re-assessment fund. The motion received no second.
C. W. Keyser and Wade H. Massie both spoke against the higher tax rate.
Opinions in favor of the'higher tax rate had been given at the earlier budget meeting before the setting of the tentative budget. These were to the effect that estimates can never be made as close as necessary and that the present estimates were all Very low. Another opinion was that it was sound business to “pay as you go,’’ avoid debt, and take off taxes when possible.
The budget was adopted at a 2 o’clock meeting which had been set as the hour at the Monday budget hearing.
In the morning session the board of supervisors heard a number of road repair requests which were continued to the next meeting due to the absence of Engineer Johnson.
In a vote of 3 to 1, with W. C. Campbell and H. B. Wood not voting, the board rescinded section (b) of 1062 of Virginia Code in regards to the burning of wood and brush, March 1 to May 15, less than 300 feet from a building or woodland between the hours of 4 o’clock p.m. to 12 midnight. :
Civil responsibility for fire and damage caused by fire are still existent. 1
This law, section (b) of 1062, applied to any county with the approval of a majority of its' governing body.

A Good Friday service will be held at Trinity Episcopal church Friday, April 7, at 11 a.m. to 12 m.
An Easter cantata “The Christ Everlasting” will be presented by the choirs of the Washington Baptist and Methodist churches at the Washington Baptist church Friday, April 7, at 8 o’clock.
A Union Sunrise service will be held at the Flint Hill Methodist church . Easter Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
Some colored Easter slides depicting the Resurrection and the first appearance of Jesus thereafter will be shown and the Lord’s Supper observed at the Flint Hill Baptist church Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
