In. the upper right hand corner of the map was written the following description:
Rappahannock county was taken from Culpeper and organized in 1835 in the 37th year of the commonwealth. It was named from the river that drains it. There was a county with the same name organized’ in 1656, which was divided into Essex and Richmond in 1692, Culpeper was taken from Orange in 1748. This was part of the Northern Neck of Virginia and was granted to Lord Fairfax. This is one of the Piedmont counties of Virginia. Those that occupied the county along the east base of the Blue Ridge and extended to the low broken ranges of the mountains eastward that form the coast range. SoTne of the Piedmont counties run into midVirginia. Rappahannock is one of the five counties that make the Rappahannock group of Piedmont counties on the waters of the Rappahannock River.
The following description as to how Rappahannock received its name was found on the back of the frame of the map.
Rappahannock (1656) in honor of an Indian tribe of the Powhatan Confederacy, meaning “people of the alternate stream” (referring to the ebb and flow of the tide in the river of that name).

Dudley Wood, son of Mr. anil Mrs. B. J. Wood of Flint Hill, sold«two hogs, weighing over 500 pounds, at Front Royal Livestock Market,- March 30, for the sum of $86.82. Dudley bought the two pigs September 24, 1949, at which time they weighed about; 50 Jbs, each. The pigs were bought 'by Swift and Co., which has always shown an interest in 4-H work.
Enterprising members of the Flint Hill 4-H Club went to work recently and sold pies in the neighborhood. They bought the pies from the Royal Baking Company, in Front Royal and sold them to neighbors, with the result that enough money was raised to send four club members to camp this summer. These industrious club members are Bettie Ann Corbin, Una Goode, Paula Miller, Teenie Gentry, John B. Browning, and Dudley Wood.
