spore causes the earlier scab infestation whereas late scab comes fpm the Canadian type tree borne spores. If we can control the spores on the ground we won’t get any spreading of scab to the tree unless the orchard concerned is within 300 feet or less from scab-infested trees.
An orchard production survey was started Tuesday, April 4, to determine Rappahannock’s eligibiiity for disaster loans made available from Federal funds through the State office of the Farm Home Administration for tire i> rpose of financing 1930 orchard operafftms where loans for such purposes are not obtainable elsewhere. Petitions to R. O. Delano, State Director, F.H.A. are also being circulated in the county requesting that Rappahannock be designated a disaster area. These petitions are in the hands of your county agent, L, J. Kilby, W. C. Campbell, Wood Bros., or at their respective offices.
Survey forms hare been sent a cross section of the producers (large, medium, and small) representing approximately 60 per cent of the total number of commercial growers in Rappahannock, however, any grower who happens to be in Washington is requested to stop by the county agent’s office for the purpose of executing one of these forms as time is an all important factor in determining whether loans to eligible orehandists will be made available during early spraying operations. Mr. Orchardist co-operate — by doing so you may help someone who really is in dire need.
