Robbery At Mack’s Place
Sunday Night
Mack’s Place, the store of E. Malcolm Richards, on the west side of Rt. 211 on the edge of the corporate limits of Washington, was broken into and robbed Sunday night.
Lester Burke, who opened tp the store early Monday morning, discovered the robbery when he found a meat-box door open. He then found a broken window through which the thieves had entered.
A check of articles missing showed the loss of about $3 in cash, some wine and beer, and there was no way to check accurately on other small numbers of items.
Sheriff Lillard was called and had the blood hounds from the convict camp at Double Toll gates on the scene by 9:30. The hounds picked up the scent at the window of the store and followed it up the mountain in the direction of Harris Hollow until they came 'upon a spot w'here livestock, dogs, and a number of people had been. Here the hounds seemed to become confused with the many scents in the vicinity.
The investigation is being continued.
