Service Projects

Rappahannock American Legion Post 245 is considering two community service projects, namely expansion of the Sperryville cemetery, to which committee on investigation and plans have been named: A. J. Dodson, E. M. Jones and J. B. Atkins. The other project being considered is highway beautification, to include dogwood, judas tree (red bud) and forsythia plantings along all primary roads in the county w'ith the idea of beginning with be&vtifying the approaches to Woodville, Sperryville, Flint Hill, Washington, and Amissville as a starter and gradually extending the beautification projects from these towns along hard surfaced roads to the county boundaries, Mr. D. N. Rock, landscaping 'engineer of the Highway Department’s Culpeper office has been invited to come look the situation over, size up the needs and report at the next Legion meeting to be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, in Sperryville, at .which time it is also planned to determine which of the projects stated above will be selected. All members of Post 245 are urged to be present and eligible Veterans are cordially invited to come and join up.
In addition to this activity the Post is also investigating through Hon. Burr P. Harrison the pros and cons of the Hoover Commission’s report as pertains to veterans’ affairs.' It is hoped that Post Adjutant I. H. Beahm will have heard from Representative Harrison in this connection by Monday and thereby be in a position to report on his findings at the meeting.
