Luray’s Phone Hearing
Postponed To June 26
Luray’s telephone hearing in Richmond Saturday, April 1, was postponed to June 26.
Page county telephone problem is unlike Rappahannock’s in its entirely, but one section of their request is similar. Page is asking repeal of a toll charge between Luray and Shenandoah, which is considered one business district. Rappahannock county holds to the opinion that since no one town is complete in itself, a toll-free telephone throughout the entire county is imperative for the transaction of business of the citizens.
Page county has only one telephone system, Virginia Telephone & Telegraph. Rappahannock has the problem of being split, C & P east of Sperryville, and Virginia Tel. & Tel. from Washington west.
Page county has one problem non - existent in Rappahannock. Telephone service in Page is not what the citizens think it should be. Rappahannock county has no complaint in service of the present systems.
Rappahannock’s interest in the Page hearing rested in the hope that if that county got toll-free service between communities, it niiirht be a clue to the success of Rappahannock’s problem in the f utu re.
