Can You Believe It? One hundred twenty-one pounds of Williamsalfalfa seed, a superior strain developed by the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station, was sown in rows on 136.7 acres of irrigated land at Bakersfield, California for seed production. Already 185,000 pounds have been harvested from the resulting crop. In otherwords each 14.5 ozs. of seed planted per acre resulted in a yield of 1353 pounds! This seed plus about 12,000 lbs. produced in Kansas will be brought to Virginia and made available to farmers for 1953 plantings at a price expected to be about 5c above that of other alfalfa varieties.
Through demonstrations of one half acre each of Williamsburg Alfalfa were started in Rappahannock last August on the farms of P.M. Finks, C. E, Johnson Jr. and Smith of Dolmont Farm.
