It was with a feeling of great disappointment that I noted your decision to vote for Stevenson. Havnig heard you extol the advantages of freedom and advocate a man’s right to furnish his own personal security, and knowing that you admire the principles of the early Virginian leaders who made our country great. I can not yet quite reconcile you and the present Democratic party leadership.
«. __ I duly noted your lack of enthusiasm for either presidential candidate and sympathize. But don’t the issues of the campaign go far beyond personalities?
For twenty years we have known only Democratic leadership. Twenty years ago a change was as necessary as it is today. We had that change then; if we have it again, the twoparty system of government in the United States may again serve, as it was planned by those great men who wrote our constitution, as a check to prevent too great on accumulation of power by any party.
In the past 20 years we have come out of a great depression, and, in the opinion of money people, are headed for a much more disastrous one. Mow does one’s personal ownership
to me?
A fellow picks up a purse containing a small fortune; another thinks of a winning slogan in a contest; another is picked from a crowd and gets a7- large sum of money for answering a simple question.
The odds are just 158,000,000 to 1! The happenings are not typical, they are unusual or they wouldn’t be put in a big city newspaper so everyone will read it.
