Forest Fite News
The danger of serious forest fires is increasing daily, according to Chief Forest Warden Raymond M. Johnson of this county.
With the prolonged dry period during the summer months and also the lack of sufficient rain during the early fall weeks, the forests are becoming very dry. ‘Unless sufficient rainfall is received within the next two weeks, this could develop into the worst fall forest fire season in many a year, states the Chief.
The leaves from the hardwood trees falling to the ground, along with the curing of the other vegetation on the forest floor, continue to build up the fuel for fast burning forest fires. >
Caution with fire is the warning to all people visiting the forests at this time of year.
The Virginia Forest Service Fire Lookout Towers will be manned on high danger fire days now until the danger decreases in the county.
