Richmond— A State Highway Department survey shows travel on Virginia's primary and Interstate systems increased by more than five per cent in the last fiscal year - one of the biggest jumps since World War II. According to the Department's tabulations an average of 24,209,677 miles were driven every day in the 12 month period ending last June 30. The state’s 1,330,000 passenger cars, which accounted for 80 per cent of all travel on Virginia highways, showed a 5.9travel increase while out of-state passenger car travel jumped 5 per cent. Fairfax County registered the most vehicle miles of travel for the counties although Arlington County was the most congested because the number of vehicle miles of travel were on fewer miles of road. Henrico County was second to Fairfax in vehicle miles of travel, Chesterfield was third and Arlington fourth Charles City County had the lowest vehicle miles of travel with 30,355 miles per day. US Route 1 continued to be the most heavily traveled through highway in the state
Teddy Hodge Earns Scholastic Recognition
Teddy Hodge of Amissville a student at Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, Tenn. has earned special scholarship recognition for work during the first semester there. He compiled a 2.5 average in a 3.0 grading system. Teddy, the son of Rev. and Mrs. John B. Hodge, is a 1963 graduate of Culpeper County High School.
