A total of 989 persons of all ages were killed on Virginia highways last year, according to records of the State Police. The list was published in Sunil ay's Times-Dispatch with names and ages of the victims It appears that every county in the state was represented although Appomattox, Bath, Greene, Highland, Lancaster, Price Edward, and Richmond Counties furnished but one each. Highest on the list was Fairfax County which reported 55. Slext was Virginia Beach with 36. Surprisingly, Richmond furnished but 20 while Norfolk listed 26, Virginia Beach 36, Newport News 19, and Chesapeake, a new city, created out of what was once South NorfolH turned in a list of 23. It was noted that many of the names were servicemen traveling on highways vicinity of a military camp, for instance Caroline County, vicinity of Quantico, 33, and Price William, 25. A sizeable number of the atalities, 169 were not resilents of Virginia. The list included North Carolina, 34, Maryland 22, New York 18, district of Columbia 16, New lersey 12* with a sprinkling rrom 20 other states.
