Diseases of the heart and circulation constitute our foremost local health problem. We are not dealing with a distant abstraction. We are concerned with a life-or-death matter that exists right here in Rappahannock County. It is a challenge that can be met only through collective action. You will also find that heart disease is no respecter of age* race, sex or occupation. It strikes impartially — the rich, the poor, the middleincome, the executive, the skilled workman and the laborer. No one is immune. The vast complex of diseases which your Heart Fund dollars helps to fight — heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, inborn heart defects, rheumatic fever and many others — also constitutes a national problem of very great importance. Essentially, that is why we are waging the fight against heart disease on a nationwide basis. Research, education and community service programs of your Heart Association are the spearheading forces in this fight. It is increasingly clear that your Heart Fund dollar carries with it the capability of reducing death and disability from the heart and circulatory diseases. Heart Fund investments made during the 1950s have begun to yield a handsome return. Among the most impressive achievements are those of your Heart Association. Heart Fund dollars have dramatically speeded development of heart surgery, drugs to help control high bood pressure, drugs to guard against repeat heart attacks, ways to prevent both initial and recurrent attacks of rheumatic fever.better ways to treat heart attach stroke and other forms of the heart and circulatory diseases Credit for these great advances does not belong along to the medical scientist and the physician. Mrs. Wood Hosts H. D. Club
The Woodville Home Demonstration Club met for its regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. H. B. Wood, Sr., on Thursday, February 6. A demonstration on "Basic Sewing Techniques* was given by Miss Harriet Goode to the following members who were present: Miss Nellie Johnson, Mrs.Amo8 Butler,Mrs.James Falls, Mrs. Gale TltcheneH and the hostess. Delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. Wood following the program.
