Nearly 200 agencies of public ! health in the Appalachian South ire receiving free supplies through the Health Committee of the Council of the Southern Mountains with offices in Berea, Kentucky. These supplies are new stocks, contributed by various manufacturers to the people of the southern mountains. The latest donation was vitamin tablets to the value of more than $93,000, Bent by Atlas Chemical I ndu s tr ie s, Stuart Company Division. These aids to health are being sent to doctors, school nurse^ welfare offices, hospitals, settlement schools and other qualified units of service to the poor who can not purchase them through commercial channels. Included in the recent shipment are maintenance vitamins, therapeutic vitamins and prenatal vitamins.
E, R. Squibb & Sons also sent a recent shipment of six million vitamins in addition to the controlled study that company is supporting through the Council. William H. Suters, Jr., Health Educator for the Council, says that probably a million dollars worth of drugs, vitamins, new shoes and clothing, hospital supplies and other aids have gone to the mountain people through his office in the past year.
