inis Army commendation Medal is awarded to First Lieutenant Richard E. McNear, 9038-43, Corps of Engineers, United States Army, for meritorious service in Korea during the period 4 May 1964 to 6 September 1964 with Company B, 8th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, as the Company Commander, Throughout this period Lieutenant McNear performed his duties in an outstanding manner. Through his ingenuity anddecisive lead ership, Lieutenant McNear organized and directed emergency flood damage repair in the 1st Brigade area. At the directive of the Commanding General to maintain the division road net, Lieutenant McNear worked diligently to insure that necessary repairs were made to main supply routes and combat trails. Through his untiring efforts, Lieutenant McNear’s unit quickly entered the problem area and worked unceasingly to give the brigade the capabili ty to occupy its defensive positions. His actions contributed greatly to the combat readiness of the division. This skillful and agressive action earned Lieutenant McNear the respect and admiration of his superiors and subordinates alike. Lieutenant McNear’s outstanding achievements and meritorious service reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Cavalry Division, and the United States Army.
