Stocking In June

Some 59,000 trout are scheduled for release In mountain streams during June as the Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries makes its final large-scale stocking effort for the season, according to Fish Division Chief Robert G. Martin. Stocking will be carried out from June 9-28. The fish are yearling brooks, rainbows and browns from the Commission's Coursey Springs and Marion hatcheries, The fish will be released in 62 streams in western Virginia if stream conditions permit. Stocking in this area will take place on the following dates unless low water conditions prohibit it: Rush River, Rappahannock County, June 24. Hughes River, Madison County, June 24. Swift Run, Greene County, June 24. South River, Greene County June 15. Passage Creek and Big Stony Creek, Shenandoah County, June 16. Cedar Creek, Shenandoah County, June 17.
