If you are at least 62 years old, you may be thinking about retiring from your job or business. Even if you do not retire, you may still be eligible to receive all or some of your social security benefits. Our best advice is for you to get in touch with the near est social security office. They will help you file your claim for benefits or give you the necessary information so that you will be able to decide if it will be more advantageous for you to postpone the filing of an application. If you have worked under social security, you should make it a point to visit the district office 2 or 3 months before your 62nd birthday. This head start will speed up the receipt of monthly benefits if you are entitled to them. If not, the people in the social security office will advise you of the amount of work you still need in order to become insured. Also, they will explain any other requirement you may have to meet.
