Prepare for Carnival
The Washington Volunteer Fire Company has started auilding on their new carnival ground in preparation for their annual fund raising event which starts for a five day stand on Tuesday June 29th. Electric power has been installed on the new nine acre lost that was purchased from Mrs. Matilda Walker and the entrance is located to the left of L. V. Merrill’s house. It has been decided to build a permanent food stand at the new grounds. Donations of time, labor, material and equipment are being gratefully received for the permanent kitchen at this time by Mrs. B. R. Armel, Treasurer of the WVFC. Tuesday night June 29th will be the opening night of the car nival and this should be the shake-down to iron out all the bugs before the parade on Wed nesday night which will feature as Grand Marshal, Miss Nancy Ruth Manuel of Front Royal, who bears the proud beauty queen title of “Miss Winchester Tri-county of 1965“ and will compete later in the summer in Roanoke for “Miss Virginia."
