Broiler prices during this month are expected to remain above last year’s levels, but some price declines are likely. Supplies are 5 to 6 per cent above last year, but seasonal increases in consumer demand and high prices on other meats should cause increased consumption. Supplies are expected to be iabout 8 per cent above the comparable period last year for the week ending June 26, and up 9 per cent for the week ending July 3. Last year and in 1963 a downward trend was experienced for about the first three weeks in June -- and then prices improved. Current prices are about 2 cents higher than during the same time last year. Farm prices last week in Virginia were mostly 16-1/2 cents, and in DelMarVa they were mostly 17-17.4 cents. Prices in Georgia were 15 cents and in North Carolina 15-1/2 cent8 with contract sales in both states 1-1 3/4 cent6 higher.
