Lavish Duplay of Laurel in Park
The mountain slopes of Shenandoah National Park will give forth with a lavish display of Mountain Laurel during the coming weekend, Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins predicted today. With favorable weather the following weekend will have an equally fine showing, according to Hoskins, who described the native shrub as having flowers about an inch in breadth ranging from white to pink during the flowering season. Mountain Laurel (simply known as Laurel when it grows in the plains) may reach a height of 30 feet and often forms almost Impassable thickets.
The area of Mt. Desert Island, Maine, has the highest elevation of any spot along the Atlantic coast, north of Rio de Janeiro.
