used to rake the leaves into great piles night after night when school was out. Until the. eve of Halloween we were free to slide over, under, down, and through, the leaves, or make caves on the landscape of our lawns. Such a cracking good time was had by all that we half regretted the approach of Halloween night when the bonfires were lit. Always our parents and friends dressed us in costumes and went “downtown" to join the Halloween parade of people in colorful disguises blowing horns and ringing loud bells, while all the stores were brilliantly lighted and delicious smells emanated from the stands along the way. Afterwards we came home and had our own celebration by the lighting of the bonfires up and down the street. It was a night you remembered.
