A timely film on land use and development was viewed by those attending the meeting Friday night of the Rappahannock Citizens Association at the courthouse in Washington. The film strip showed what is happening in many places in this nation and what could and will happen any and everywhere if caution is not exercised in the growth and development of Rappahannock or any other county. Evald Holmgaard, guest speaker from Loudoun County, said he had seen erratic development create havoc with many places during his career in military service. It was stated that asphalt and concrete are being laid in this country at the average of a million acres each year. Without ordinances governing many features of development land values could not remain intact nor could services be properly provided as is already evident in many cities now searching for a place to put refuse. Looking around just a little one can find the same problems in a small way already taking shape here. Mr. Holmgaard said the citizens, and governing body of the county must communicate and work together and an association of the nature of the newly established group here could be most helpful. He said the group should not disband after one problem is solved for there is sure to be another. Lack of preparation to meet the evolving problems can mean choatic disaster. Sperryville Dance A dance for the benefit of Sperryville Rescue Squad and Fire Department will be held Saturday night, Oct. 30 at the Sperryville fire hall. Music will be provided by the Country Classics and dancing begins at 9 a.m. Adults only are admitted.
