Sheriff a three-way race evinced with incumbent C. K. Estes being opposed by John Walker Jenkins and Edward Timbers. Mr. Estes has served as Sheriff for almost ten years being appointed to the office in January 1962 to fill the unexpired term of C. W. Critzer. He is a native of Rappahannock; 37 years old; the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H.! Estes of Sperryville. He attended public schools here for ten years and Randolph Macon Academy, Front Royal for two years. After graduation from RMA, he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute for a year. Mr. Estes served 21 months active duty with the U. S. Army and served three years active duty with the Reserves. He is a past member and chief of Speryville Volunteer Fire Department and was a charter member of Rappahannock Jaycees. He is married to the former Betty Lillard of Etlan, Madison County and they have two children Kim and Ken. They reside in Sperryville. John Walker Jenkins, 38, is a native of Sperryville, the son of Mrs. Luther S. Jenkins and the late Mr. Jenkins. He attended Rappahannock County public schools and served with the U. S. Army for two years. He was formerly employed as a deputy in the local Sheriff’s Department.
Mr. Jenkins has been a member of Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years, serving as its chief for six years, and now holds the office of president.
He is married to the former Marie Caudle of Fairfax County and they live in Sperryville.
The third candidate is Edward Timbers who is 57 years old and a native of Rappahannock County. He attended school at Scrabble and is a member of Shiloh Baptist church. Mr. Timbers is a carpenter, painter and farmer.
He is married to the former Annie Belle Starks and they reside at Woodville.
Three of the five election districts have a contest for seats on the Board of Supervisors. In Hampton District incumbent Newbill Miller is being opposed by Clarence Baldwin; Incumbent J. Norman Wilbur is meeting opposition from H. B. Wood jr. in Stonewall-Hawthorne District; and Herbert Foster is being opposed by Walter Williams in Wakefield District. Newbill Miller is a 35 year old nqtivp of Rappahannock who has spent his entire life here. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg
