Supervisor unairman reie L,uive answered that cutting out all the raises given to county employes wouldn’t amount to enough to lower the tax rate. He said that $90,000 had been cut from the original budget by the Supervisors at a meeting with Clerk Ned Jones and County Accountant Walter Cox.
In an effort to hold costs down, Luke said he had written a letter to the State Compensation Board requesting that raises for constitutional offices be held to five percent. The Commissioner of the Revenue and County Treasurer received five percent increases while the Commonwealth’s Attorney and Sheriff received ten percent.
