THE RAPPAHANNOCK Supervisors couldn’t do anything about the present tax structure at their Thursday, June 24, budget hearing, but they agreed to examine it closely—beginning at the July meeting of the Board, as suggested Supervisor Chairman Pete Luke.
“I think we need a reconstruction of the tax base to take some of the pressure off the farmer,” agreed Supervisor Butch Eastham. He advised that it is “legally justifiable” to assess subdivided land selling at $1500 an acre or more at a higher rate than land in agricultural use.
