A recent study indicates that the most common fear among older persons is the fear of dependence-dependence on others for transportation, for lodging, for food, for money, for companionship. The second most common fear is the fear of loneliness. As the years progress, friends and family pass away or move away and people have less mobility and fewer opportunities to make new friends. The programs offered by the Area Agency on Aging are designed to attack both of those areas of concern. They provide help to enable a person to continue doing things for himself as well as opportunities for being with each other.
