Beginning July 1 anyone in Rappahannock County in need of help can call 987-8200 and a Christian service organization with the ancient symbol of FISH will swing into action. If there is an emergency need for transportation a desire to talk with a minister, or a question about food stamps—any problem that volunteer workers can help solve—call 987-8200.
An answering device will automatically refer the caller to the telephone volunteer for the day. The volunteer will then help the caller to reach any existing service from the rescue squad to the health department. If the emergency calls for food, clothing, or temporary shelter (after a residential fire, for instance) the FISH volunteers will go to work on that. Emergency babysitting for a stricken family, confidential counseling or special guidance—all may be needed, and FISH will try to help.
