scene of the crime at 3:15 a.m. to find the victims in Starks’s car, apparently dead with gunshot wounds in the head. He added that Sheriff W. A. Buntin was already on the spot when he arrived. According to Orfila, an autopsy performed at Fairfax County Hospital showed gunshot wounds as cause of death in both cases.
Photographs of the victims in the automobile were presented as evidence after attorney Biddle dropped his objections to their introduction.
Haywood Turner the next witness testified that Carter was an invited guest at Turner’s party on May 29. He acknowledged that alcohol and beer were served but added that Carter “didn’t seem to be intoxicated to me.”
Turner said there had been an argument between Gatewood and Carter sometime around midnight. "Frank wanted her to come outside and talk with him . . . She wouldn’t.”
Turner described Carter as “pretty mad.” He testified that he heard the defendant announce that he “would get both of them before the night was over.”
